I have to say, I love my little artist studio in downtown Ferndale. I have been here for about 5 years and it's become my home away from home. It's usually messy and I've come to accept that it's just the way I work. I use it for all sorts of creative things such as metalsmith and jewelry design, fashion design, and photography. I do headshots here and creative shoots. I take apart vintage machines: adding machines, cash registers, and typewriters to use the parts to make jewelry out of. I sew dresses out of automotive material and seatbelts. It's on the second floor right in the center of downtown Ferndale and I can look out my window and see the unique Ferndale community that I love so much. My husband has his restaurant, The Conserva a half a block away at the corner of 9 Mile and Bermuda so I can walk there and see him whenever I want.
I have had some fun things happen at my studio over the years. Karen Drew from Local 4 news came to interview me. I've been filmed by the Detroit Institute of Art when I participated in the samurai design competition. A film crew from Latcha came and shot me to be on the Audi Life website. Detroit Performs came and shot an episode here. The Wall Street Journal came to interview me here. Unfortunately, it never went to print. The Daily Tribune also came to interview me here.
I think when you walk in, you can feel the creative energy. It is a wonderful place and I am grateful to have it. I pour my heart and my soul into every piece of jewelry, every dress, and every photograph I create. And I love that this special studio is so versatile for all sorts of creativity for me to explore.
Cheers!
